Getting from RSW Airport into Fort Myers: LeeTran Route 50, an airport taxi, or a rental car?
Fort Myers is a driving town and RSW is built for it, with the rental car facility a few steps from bag claim. Public transport exists but it is thin: one LeeTran route touches the terminal, it stops in the late evening, and it does not reach the downtown River District without a change of bus. Several bus stops on Daniels Parkway are closed for construction on the Route 50 corridor. The nearest alternative is posted at each closed stop, so read the sign first.

Under 5 hours: Stay in the terminal. Wi-Fi is free and there is nothing within one bus ride that repays the risk of the return leg.
5 to 9 hours: One move, and only if the bus times line up. Route 50 toward the South Fort Myers Transfer Station is the realistic reach, and the Bell Tower shops and hotels are on the route too, though without a printed stop time of their own. Fix your return trip before you leave the terminal, because the gap between airport buses can run to well over an hour.
9 hours plus: Enough for the beach or the downtown River District, though both mean a change of bus. If the window runs into the evening, a taxi or a car is the safer way back: the last airport bus leaves at 10:21 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 7:36 p.m. on Sunday.

Paying for the bus: Cash is still accepted on every LeeTran bus, but the farebox gives no change, so bring the exact amount. Its printed timing points are a shorter list: RSW, Jetport Commerce Plaza and Daniels, Daniels Parkway and Treeline Avenue, the South Fort Myers Transfer Station, Winkler Road at Summerlin Road, HealthPark, Grande Calusa, and Beach Park and Ride. Bell Tower is on the route but has no printed time of its own, so ask the driver to put you off there rather than watching the timetable for it. The downtown River District is not on the route at all. For downtown you change buses at a transfer center, which LeeTran marks with a star on its route maps, and Route 50’s own transfer points are the South Fort Myers Transfer Station and Park and Ride, Winkler and Gladiolus, and Beach Park and Ride.
