Getting from PMI Airport into Palma: which ride makes sense?
Two networks meet at the same terminal doors. EMT runs the Palma city buses, including line A1 to the centre, and TIB runs the island buses that reach the resorts. There is no rail link to the airport. Ask the driver when the last bus runs. No official page publishes a first or last bus time in either direction, so keep the taxi rank as your backup.

What to Do on a Layover in Palma de Mallorca, from a short sit in the terminal to a full day in the city
Under 5 hours: Stay airside. The terminal Wi-Fi opens up only after you verify an email address, and the round trip into the centre plus security on the way back does not sit comfortably in a short window, especially in summer when the terminal queues are at their longest.
5 to 9 hours: One move works: the A1 into the centre, the Old Town and the cathedral on foot, and the same line back. Fix the bus you intend to catch back before you leave the stop, because no published departure list is available to check on the way home.
9 hours plus: A full city day is realistic: centre, one quarter beyond it such as Santa Catalina or the Portixol seafront, and a proper meal. The beach belt at Platja de Palma is the other option, close to the airport on line A2.
Crew Tips for Palma de Mallorca and PMI Airport
Paying for the airport bus: The airport lines are priced apart from the rest of the city network. Cash on board buys a single for EUR 5,00 with no transfer; the same trip on a prepaid card is EUR 5,00 and includes one free transfer between different urban lines within 90 minutes of the first validation, and an airport return on a prepaid card is EUR 8,00. Do not buy the ten-journey pass expecting to use it here: the city states plainly that it is not valid on the airport lines. A city single, by contrast, is EUR 2,00. Holders of the local Tarjeta Ciutadana pay EUR 1,00 to the airport as residents and EUR 5,00 as non-residents.
What a taxi from the airport really costs: There is a floor under every airport taxi trip: EUR 16,95 minimum, covering the flag drop, the airport supplement and the first 7 km. Above that the meter runs at EUR 1,20 per km on a working day and EUR 1,35 at night or on a holiday, and the night rate starts at 21:00 on weekdays and applies all day on Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays. Groups pay more: EUR 3,00 extra for 5 or 6 people and EUR 6,00 for 7 or 8. Luggage costs nothing, card payment is compulsory and free, and so is the receipt, so ask for it.
Connectivity in the terminal: Connect to the network called Airport Free Wifi Aena, then open the welcome portal and sign in with your email address as a guest or with an Aena Club account. The airport gives you 15 minutes of free internet to confirm the verification email it sends, and once the account is verified you have internet access without time limitations. Support is on (+34) 900 928 053. The operator states the steps and those limits, and quotes no price for the service.
Tap water: drinkable, and hard: EMAYA, the municipal water company, states that the water it supplies to the city carries a full health guarantee and can be used without any problem for drinking and cooking, and that no household filter jug or treatment device is needed. It also says in the same breath that the island geology makes the supply hard to semi-hard depending on the district and the time of year, and highly mineralised. If the chlorine taste bothers you, the utility’s own advice is to leave the water to stand in an open glass jug for about 30 minutes, then chill it and drink it within 24 hours.
Getting out to the resorts on the island network: The TIB island buses that call at the airport, A11, A32, A42 and A51, pick up on Floor 0 Arrivals only, so note where they call, but they do run in both directions: the operator lists the airport as the end of the itinerary for these lines. Fares work on zone hops, capped at 4 hops however far you go. Pay the driver in cash with banknotes of EUR 20 or smaller, or tap a Tarjeta Unica or a contactless bank card. A cash ticket from the driver is valid only on that one line and allows no transfer. If you tap in with a card you must also tap out, using the same card or device, or you are charged EUR 0,30 per person plus the fare for the rest of the trip. Your bank may also place a hold of up to EUR 20 to check the card is live.
The bus stop has moved for now: The airport operator has posted that the EMT and TIB stop on the outdoor departures level was temporarily relocated from 20 August to 19 September, and on 20 September that notice was still up on the airport’s bus page. Follow the signs in the terminal rather than a saved pin, and allow a few extra minutes if you are catching a bus off the departures level in that window.
