Getting from Dublin Airport to Dublin City Centre by coach, TFI city bus, or taxi

Two commercial coach operators work the terminal kerbs, TFI city buses stop at the same zones, and the taxi ranks sit outside both terminals.

What to Do on a Layover in Dublin, matched to the hours you actually have
Under 5 hours: Stay at the airport. Wi-Fi is free with no sign-up, drinking water stations sit either side of security, and the time you would burn on the road is worth more to you as buffer.
5 to 9 hours: The city sits close enough to be worth it. Coach in, a loop of Temple Bar, Trinity College, and Grafton Street on foot, coach back, return buffer untouched.
9 hours plus: A full Dublin day works. Museums and the river in the centre, or take the 702 out to Grand Canal Dock and the coast at Dalkey when you want distance from the crowds.
Crew Tips for Dublin and Dublin Airport: Leap Card caps, the taxi tariff clock, and where a bag waits between terminals
Public transport payments: Get a TFI Leap Card. One reusable prepaid card covers TFI bus, DART, commuter rail, and Luas, saves up to 30 percent on adult fares against cash, and then stops charging you: the Dublin Zone 1 adult daily cap is EUR 6.00 and the adult weekly cap is EUR 24.00. TFI names WH Smith in Terminal 1 and the Spar shop in Terminal 2 as Leap Card sales points at the airport (transportforireland.ie/plan-a-journey/network-maps/tfi-routes-to-dublin-airport/, 2026-08-14).
Coach tickets: Book the coach online before you land. Dublin Express is from EUR 9 one way when you do, and onboard sales are card payment only with availability not guaranteed. Peak road traffic runs 07:30 to 09:30 and 16:30 to 18:30, so pad the leg back.
Connectivity: The Wi-Fi at Dublin Airport is free to use and needs no sign-up or registration. Find or type the network name Dublin Airport Wi-Fi in your Wi-Fi settings, then click Connect on the pop-up.
Taxi safety check: Every licensed taxi carries prescribed branding, a taximeter, a printer, and a roof sign, and the taxi licence number on your receipt should match the number shown on the roof sign. Check it before you sit down. The TFI Driver Check App confirms your driver is licensed and forwards that information to a friend, which is the move on a solo night run. Luggage storage: Smarte Carte Ireland runs the bag storage, at Terminal 1 Arrivals on the left once you are through the main doors, and at Terminal 2 Departures by the American Airlines check-in desk. It opens 05:00 to 21:00, Monday to Sunday, phone 01 965 3000. Trolleys cost nothing, and there are over 50 trolley bays across both terminals.
Taxi tariff clock: The cheap taxi tariff is a narrow window. Standard rate, initial charge EUR 4.40, runs 08:00 to 20:00 Monday to Saturday, public holidays excepted. Outside that you are on the premium rate, initial charge EUR 5.40, which covers 20:00 to 08:00 Monday to Saturday, all day Sunday, and all day on public holidays. Weekend small hours carry their own special rate, initial charge EUR 5.40 and EUR 2.20 per km, every Saturday and every Sunday from 00:00 to 04:00 and at a few times over the Christmas period. Pre-booking adds EUR 3. A 04:00 report or a 23:00 arrival is never on the cheap clock.
