Getting from Alicante-Elche Airport into the centre of Alicante: the C-6 bus, a taxi, or a coach along the coast?
One bus line does the work. The C-6 runs from the departures roadway into the centre of Alicante, and because the terminal has no rail or tram station of its own, everything else is a taxi, a ride-hailing car, or a coach to somewhere further down the coast. Bus C-6 no longer calls at Estacion Salamanca. Use Estacion Avenida instead if you were told to catch the airport bus at Salamanca.

Explanada de Espana and the port: The tiled seafront promenade and the marina behind it, the first thing most people walk when they come in from the airport.
Casco Antiguo and Santa Cruz: The old town climbing the hill under the castle, narrow lanes and painted houses, and the densest run of small bars in the city.
Mercado Central and the shopping streets: The covered market and the retail grid around Avenida Alfonso X El Sabio, which is also where the C-6 meets the tram.
Playa del Postiguet: The city beach directly below the castle, close enough to the centre to work on a short window.
Playa de San Juan and Albufereta: The long beach strip northeast of the centre, reached on the tram rather than on foot, and the calmer place to sleep.
What to Do on a Layover in Alicante, from a short sit in the terminal to the castle above the old town
Under 5 hours: Stay airside or in the terminal. There is no rail link, so a trip into Alicante means a bus each way plus screening on the return, and that does not sit comfortably inside a short window.
5 to 9 hours: One clean move works: the C-6 to the centre, the Explanada and the old town on foot, and the same bus back. Note the departure times off the board when you arrive, so you are not guessing later.
9 hours plus: Enough for the centre plus one thing beyond it, either the castle above the old town or the tram out to Playa de San Juan, and a proper meal before you head back.
Crew Tips for Alicante and Alicante-Elche Airport: paying for transit in the city, the taxi meter, and the left luggage clock
Paying for transit in the city: A single TAM ticket is EUR 1,45 and works on the Alicante urban buses and on the tram inside zone A. It allows no transfer. Other TAM tickets do allow one transfer within 60 minutes of the first validation. If you are making several trips, the rechargeable Mobilis card costs EUR 2,00 unpersonalised, and a 10 trip load is EUR 8,70 before the temporary regional reduction that runs to 31 December 2026, which brings it to EUR 5,25. Read the price on the machine, because the reduction is dated and the older end date of 31 July 2026 is still printed in places. Children under 10 travel free with an adult who holds a valid ticket, up to two children per adult.
Pay the airport bus at the door: The TAM system is defined as the Alicante urban network, the interurban routes to Sant Vicent del Raspeig, Sant Joan d’Alacant, El Campello, and Mutxamel, and TRAM zone A. The airport is not in it, so the EUR 1,45 city ticket does not cover the C-6 and the airport line charges its own fare. The regional government caps this line at EUR 4,70 a trip, in force from 10 July 2026, so you should never be asked for more. It does not set out which of its two fare classes you get on the day, and the airport, city and TAM pages print no price at all, so the board at the door is where you read what you actually pay. Carry a bank card and some cash.
There is no train or tram at the terminal: Alicante-Elche has no rail or tram station of its own, and the tram you may have read about is a separate operator from the airport bus. The link is the C-6 into the city, which meets the TRAM network at Alfonso X El Sabio and Plaza de los Luceros. Do not plan a connection that assumes you can walk from the terminal onto a train.

The regional table and the Elche table disagree because the regional resolution prints its own flag drop while the order it sits under says the charge is the one set where the ride begins, and the ride begins in Elche. On the special tariff the same split runs EUR 2,80 against EUR 1,94. On top of all that, Elche adds an airport supplement of EUR 4,35 whether the airport is your origin or your destination. Ask the driver for an estimate before you set off.
Luggage storage: The left luggage office is on Floor 2, Departures, in the public zone, and it opens Monday to Sunday from 9:00 to 15:30. The same counter sells travel items and wrapping and runs from 5:00 to 21:00 for those, so check which service you need against which clock. A short afternoon window can fall outside the storage hours, so drop bags on the way out rather than on the way back.
Connectivity: The airport Wi-Fi network is Airport Free Wifi Aena. You get 15 minutes of free internet in which to confirm your email address, and once the account is verified there is no time limit. You can sign in as a guest with an email address or with an Aena Club account. Verify the address inside that 15 minute window or you start again.
